Installation

It is required to have the Cloudfence repository installed and enabled before installing the Web Filter plugin. To enable and install the Cloudfence repository, please follow this page instructions:

After installed and enabled the Cloudfence repository, go to System/Firmware/Plugins menu:

  1. Click on Plugin tab

  2. Type "web-filter" in the search box

  3. Click on + icon to start installing it

  4. A message dialogue will be shown, click on the Install button

After installed, go to the Cloudfence / Web Filter Community menu:

Download URL blacklist

It is required to download and install a URL blacklist to use the WebFilter plugin. The community's version doesn't provide a URL blacklist, so you need to choose one and configure it, any Squid's compatible blacklist may work, but they must have one of the following file extensions: *.gz, .*.zip, *.tgz, *.tar.gz

As an example, you can use the UT1 da Université Toulouse, which is available in the OPNsense official documentation.

To download it, follow the steps:

Always check the URL blacklist license and use terms before using it.

  1. Check Enable Web Filter option

  2. Type the blacklist URL in the Blacklist Categories URL textbox

  3. Click on the Apply button

  4. A message dialogue will be shown, just click on Download button to start URL blacklist download and building

The download and building process may take several minutes depending on your Internet connection and OPNsense hardware performance.

The premium version has a built-in URL blacklist that is installed immediately after its download. To subscribe to the premium version, go to:

After the download and building process are finished, the following message will disappear and the available blacklist categories will be listed in the Enabled Categories option:

If the blacklist categories doesn't be listed after building process, try to refresh your browser (F5 key)

6. Click on Apply button

Well done! The Web Filter plugin is ready to use!
